I’ll pass on the cookies & sweets

2. I Lost It, Can’t Find
It
Fruits and vegetables come in a
rainbow of colors: yellow/orange, white, red, green, and
blue/purple. Children gather real, play, or imaginary fruits and
vegetables in an attempt to help retrieve the lost fruit. They
can gather fake food, colored buttons, blocks, or manipulatives,
and sort by group, color, shape, size, or other characteristics.
Once gathered, children can count, sort, build patterns or
practice simple mathematics on a table, or on a PLATE!
I lost it, can’t find it
My yellow / orange basket
It’s full of fruit & veggies
So…what was in my basket?
What was in my basket?
My yellow/orange basket?
Apricots, pineapples, nectarines
Carrots, sweet potatoes, tangerines
I lost it, can’t find it
I lost my clean white basket
It’s full of fruit & veggies
So…what fruit was in my basket?
What fruit was in my basket?
I lost my clean white basket
Onions, potatoes, white corn
Mushrooms, cauliflower, bananas and more
I lost it, can’t find it
Can’t find my bright red basket
It’s full of fruit & veggies
So…what fruit was in my basket?
What fruit was in my basket?
Can’t find my bright red basket
Red apples, watermelon,
strawberries,
Tomatoes, radishes, beets, cherries
I lost it, can’t find it
I lost my dark green basket
It’s full of fruit & veggies
So…what fruit was in my basket?
What fruit was in my basket?
I lost my dark green basket
Avocados, kiwi, Green beans
Broccoli, peas, cabbage, limes and greens
I lost it, can’t find it
My blue & purple basket
It’s full of fruit & veggies
So…what fruit was in my basket?
What fruit was in my basket?
My blue & purple basket
cabbage, eggplant, blackberries,
raisins, grapes, plums, blueberries
3. Hot Potato, Hot Potato
A passing or tossing game to promote active
group play, improve tracking skills and develop hand-eye
coordination. Individually or in a group, children can pass
or toss small child-safe manipulatives to one another while seated or standing,
roll to one another, slap balloons through the air, toss/swat
child-safe sponge or yarn balls, etc. Speed their passing up for more giggles.
Adults can stop the song at intervals in a “musical chairs”
style game.
Hot Potato, Hot Potato
Don’t touch me
Hot Potato, Hot Potato
If you please
Hot Potato, Hot Potato
Pass it fast
Hot Potato, Hot Potato
Goes right past
Hot Potato, Hot Potato
Fast as you can
Feels like a vegetable
In my hand
Hot Tomato, Hot Tomato
There it goes
Hot Tomato, Hot Tomato
Red as a rose
Hot Tomato, Hot Tomato
Pass me by
Hot Tomato, Hot Tomato
Wave goodbye
Hot Tomato, Hot Tomato
Fast as you can
Feels like a vegetable
In my hand
4.
Annie picked some blue berries
Gather fresh fruit, squeeze it,
and make delicious 100% fruit juices. Celebrate with Annie as
she picks her fruit: blueberries/walk & kick, oranges/dancing
free, apples/skip, grapes/turn around & jump. Discuss vegetables
that make delicious juices and let children come up with new
actions.
Annie picked some blue
berries
And squeezed ‘em really hard
Poured them through a strainer
in a blue berry jar
She drank the juice down
Didn’t know why
But, walked right off
Kicking way up high
Sweet and juicy fruits for
me
Grown on bushes
or picked from a tree
Annie picked some oranges
And squeezed ‘em really hard
Poured them through a strainer
In a big orange jar
She drank the juice and pulp
In one big gulp
And the vitamin C
Had her dancin’ free
Sweet and juicy fruits
for me
Grown on bushes
or picked from a tree
Annie picked some apples
And squeezed ‘em really hard
Poured them through a strainer
In a red apple jar
She drank the juice down
And said with a shout
“I sure feel great!”
Then skipped on out
Sweet and juicy fruits for me
Grown on bushes
or picked from a tree
Annie picked some green grapes
And squeezed ‘em really hard
Poured them through a strainer
In a green grape jar
She drank the juice down
And turned around
She felt so good
She jumped up and down
Sweet and juicy fruits for me
Grown on bushes
or picked from a tree
5. Gonna' Eat
Fresh fruits and vegetables
make great snacks: bananas, lettuce, berries, broccoli, apples,
carrots, and more. Which ones have the children tasted? What
are their favorites? What colors are they? How are they
prepared?
We choose the color way
And we eat right
From the apples to the berries
And our energy is high
From the carrots to the lettuce
Breakfast, dinner or lunch
Snack on healthy foods
You can crunch and munch
We’re gonna' eat bananas
Gonna' eat bananas
Gonna grow ‘em, pick ‘em, peel ‘em, eat ‘em
We're gonna' eat some
lettuce
Gonna'
eat some lettuce
Gonna'
grow it, pick it, wash it, eat it
We're gonna' eat some
berries
Gonna'
eat some berries
Gonna'
grow ‘em, pick ‘em, wash ‘em, eat ‘em
We choose
the color way
And we eat right
From the apples to the berries
And our energy is high
From the carrots to the lettuce
Breakfast, dinner or lunch
Snack on healthy foods
You can crunch and munch
6. I Pick What You Pick
A free movement “follow the
leader” game, sung “as a round,” where children pick a favorite
fruit, veggie, color, or other item, and locomotor in and around
related child-safe props in a variety of ways: around, outside,
inside, over, under, zig zag, in a straight line,
long/wide/short strides, beside, etc.
Child-safe
props: cones, paper cups, poly spots, carpet squares, sponge or
yarn balls, plastic squeegees, construction paper designs,
painted paper lunch bags, etc.
I pick what you pick
You pick what I pick
I do what you do
You do what I do
Anywhere around the farm
Outside or in the barn
Take turns
So we can share
From here
To over there
I pick what you pick
You pick what I pick
I go where you go
You go where I go
Over the pile of greens
Under the apple tree
Zigzag or
in a line
Either way
will be just fine
I step where you step
You step where I step
I go where you go
You go where I go
Right through the pumpkin
patch
Look out for the onion batch
Long, wide
Or short strides
Might end up
Right beside
I step where you step
You step where I step
I do what you do
You do what I do
Over the cabbage heads
All around the veggie bed
I’ll follow you
You follow me
Foot loose
And fancy free
I’ll follow you
You follow me
Foot loose
And fancy free
7. We Pass The Apples
A passing game that promotes
hand-eye coordination. Children pass objects of various sizes to
each other, or around in a circle while seated or standing: 1-by-1 (apple), 2-by-2
(berries), 3-by-3 (corn), 4-by-4 (tomatoes). The challenge is
for children to maintain control of the passing as more items
are added. Use lightweight manipulatives.
We pass the apples one-by-one
Hoorah, hoorah
Pass to each other one-by-one
Hoorah, hoorah
We pick the apples from a
tree
I pass to you and you pass to me
And we’ll get those apples down,
If they drop, pick them up, off the ground
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
We pass the berries
two-by-two
Hoorah, hoorah
Pass to each other two-by-two
Hoorah, hoorah
We pick the berries from a
bush
Don’t squeeze to hard, try not to mush
And we’ll get those berries down,
If they drop, pick them up, off the ground
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
We pass sweet corn
three-by-three
Hoorah, hoorah
Pass to each other three-by-three
Hoorah, hoorah
We pick the sweet corn from
the stalk
Keep moving, please don’t stop to talk
And we’ll get that sweet corn down,
If they drop, pick them up, off the ground
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
We pass tomatoes
four-by-four
Hoorah, hoorah
Pass to each other four-by-four
Hoorah, hoorah
We pick tomatoes off the
vine
You pass me yours, and I’ll pass you mine
And we’ll pass tomatoes around
If they drop, pick them up, off the ground
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom
8. If Lived on an
Island
A relaxing
Hawaiian tune in which children are introduced to island living
and tropical fruits such as papaya, mangos,
figs, pineapples, and kiwi. It's a great time to introduce
culturally diverse foods.
Right by the sea … by the
sea ... by the sea
I’d have my sweet & tropical fruits
Growing all around me
I’d eat papaya, and mangos
too
I’d eat my figs, pineapples and kiwi
‘Til my belly was full
If I lived on an island
Right by the sea … right by the sea
I’d have my sweet & tropical fruits
Growing all around me
I’d sit near a palm tree
With the coconuts ….With the coconuts
I’d blend my fruits, and drink the juice
From my umbrella cup
9.
