3.         When You Stretch

Stretching is a slow, easy body movement that is not meant to hurt or damage the muscles.  Prompt children to move slowly, and stretch as far out as they can toward whatever direction they are going.

When you stretch, you pull your body up
Real long, reach it high

Bring your arms down slowly

4.          Snap Your Fingers

Introduce a variety of instruments and rhythms that the children can make themselves. Carry on the tune and let them make their own music.

5.           The Mulberry Bush #

Set-up a make believe Mulberry Bush and guide the children around in a circle-time activity using the following commands. Take time to introduce the Spanish commands.

6             Mary Did The Bunny Hop   

Set up a simple obstacle course using cones, cups or carpet squares and let the children hop over and around their obstacles. Loop the music for more time.

Mary did the bunny hop, silly hop, funny hop
Mary did the bunny hop.  Come on!  You too! Let’s go!
Every time that Mary hopped, she would start, then she’d stop.
Every time that Mary hopped. Her ears would flap like so.

She hopped one day to school this way, on one leg, just one leg.
She hopped her way to school this way. So far now, don’t you know?
It made the children try to play, try to play, try to play.
It made the children laugh and say.  Oh no, we’re just too slow.

7.             Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Stand children up in a circle, facing each other, and take them through the motions.

Gently down the stream.
Touch your nose, and touch your toes and jump like jumping beans.

Hold your nose, and dive real low and swim like fish down stream.

Singing the alphabet song is the best time for alpha-calisthenics. Try marching, shaking shakers, touching toes, bouncing balls, or even tossing and catching. Get CREATIVE!  How would the children like to move?

9.          I’m a Choo Choo  #

The children pick a mode of transportation, then line up and become that mode throughout the song. You'll have a combination of trains, planes and automobiles moving about the room. Don’t forget the sound effects!

Animal mimicry is one of the funniest ways to keep kids moving. This song takes them through a zoo of animals. It's a perfect time to talk about the animals they've seen, and other experiences.  Which animal would they like to be?  Can they show you how that animal moves? Sounds?

Find the colors in their clothing, in the car, in the classroom, or in the house? When the song ends, ask the kids if they can think of a color that they didn’t find? There is a hint at the end of the song. The last color they should find is blue.
