Nutrition in Action Partners with USDA to Promote MyPyramid Food Guidance System

DEVILS LAKE, N.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nutrition in Action, a leader in nutrition education for children, today announced it has entered into a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Partnering with MyPyramid Corporate program. Nutrition in Action develops creative, engaging nutrition education materials which incorporate music, movement, and children’s literacy in a grab-and-go format for educators that excite youth about eating healthy and moving more.

“Jenny Steinhaus … took an idea and made it happen. (She) used her knowledge, training, creativity and, most of all, passion, to make a difference above and beyond the demands of normal professional responsibilities. This is how change happens.”

As a USDA MyPyramid Corporate Partner, Nutrition in Action and the USDA share common goals of developing complimentary programs that encourage healthy eating and activity. Jenny Steinhaus, M.S., L.N., CEO of Nutrition in Action, has partnered with musical artists and story book authors to offer power-packed curricula that are changing the way we teach health education. “At Nutrition in Action, we are proud of our new partnership with the USDA. With a renewed interest in family meal time, reducing obesity rates, feeding our children healthfully, and increasing physical activity, there is a significant opportunity for educators to provide this innovative nutrition education to our nation’s youth.”

This is nutrition education that inspires youth to be active and eat healthier. Susan Finn PhD, LD, RD, FADA, the CEO and president of the American Council for Fitness & Nutrition and past president of The American Dietetic Association (ADA) states: “Jenny Steinhaus … took an idea and made it happen. (She) used her knowledge, training, creativity and, most of all, passion, to make a difference above and beyond the demands of normal professional responsibilities. This is how change happens.”

Nutrition in Action takes the guess work out of nutrition education by offering educational materials that are grab-and-go for teachers. These materials excite and stimulate children's movement through music and incorporate healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives. Nutrition in Action is a creative, fun, and innovative way for children to learn about nutrition and physical activity while meeting school education standards. Steinhaus states: “We sincerely believe music is an under-utilized resource in nutrition and health education. Partnering music and story time grabs children’s interests and provides an outlet for children’s high spirits and creative energy.”

Nutrition in Action’s innovative materials include: Music & Movement: Nutrition in Action Curriculum, Handwashing Germs are Everywhere Teaching Kit, Family Meal Time: We Have Table Manners Teaching Kit, and Family Meal Time We Have Table Manners Place Mats.
